Abstract

The adoption of digital technologies in public library services in Nigeria, particularly in Anambra State, faces significant challenges that hinder their full potential. This study examines the barriers to the effective integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in public libraries, focusing on infrastructural deficits, inadequate funding, poor internet connectivity, and insufficient digital literacy among librarians. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 23 librarians in Anambra State. Findings reveal that inadequate funding, unreliable electricity, and lack of technical support are major impediments. Additionally, the study found no significant difference in perceptions of these challenges between male and female librarians. The results underscore the need for targeted interventions, including increased funding, policy reforms, and capacity-building programs, to enhance ICT adoption. Addressing these challenges is crucial for modernizing public library services and ensuring equitable access to digital resources for all users.
